ELE stands for Ewald Larssons Eftr., i.e. the generations that succeeded the founder Ewald Larsson, who started to lay the foundations for the forestry and sawmill business in 1909. The forest stock, all of which is situated in the province of Hälsingland, now totals around 11,000 hectares, of which 10,000 are under active forestry management. The remaining 1000 hectares are nonproductive land or have been set aside for nature conservation. In 1910 Ewald Larsson became part-owner of a sawmill business, which he took over in 1920 and ran until 1946. The sawmill was then sold to Ljusne-Woxna AB, which continued to operate with Ewald Larsson as MD until 1951, when the business closed down.
Ewald Larsson then began making plans to build a modern frame sawmill. In 1956 Ewald Larsson died, but his plans for the sawmill were realised and the business was run by the second generation of his heirs until 1974, when the sawmill was sold. In 1981 building work began on a special sawmill for short lengths of timber - ELE Trävaru AB - which is now being run by the third generation. The organisation is currently structured as follows:
